In these times there are many things that might worry you or your children. Talking together and planning strategies of how to help each other can do much to allay fear and rally support. Family councils are an eternal principle. We have always been part of a Heavenly Family Council. Family Councils are an important tool that we are encouraged by our leaders to use to counsel together about anything that affects family members. Parents are encouraged to mostly listen and encourage discussion. We are promised “. . . family council held regularly will help us spot family problems early and nip them in the bud; councils will give each family member a feeling of worth and importance; and most of all they will assist us to be more successful and happy in our precious relationships, within the walls of our homes.”
If you have not held family councils, you are welcome to use this little agenda to help you get started.
Elder M Russell Ballard has told us that there are basically 4 types of Family Councils:
Full family council – Involves the whole family, may need to include some members by Facetime, Skype or other electronic means.
Executive Council – Involves only the parents.
Limited Family Council – Involves both parents spending time with an individual child
One-on-One Family Council – Involves one parent and one child, often a special outing or activity.
