The Melchizedek Priesthood was restored in June 1829 by a heavenly visitation of Peter, James, and John, Apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ. They ordained Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery by conferring “the keys of my kingdom…” (Doctrine and Covenants 27:13) The Higher Priesthood is named after the Old Testament great High Priest, Melchizedek.
