Joseph receives the Plates from Angel Moroni — the fall of 1827. Moroni, the last of the Nephite prophets, inscribed on gold plates an eyewitness account of his nation's total destruction. It is recorded how Moroni buried the plates, in Hill Cumorah in upstate New York in 427 A.D. He returned as a heavenly messenger to deliver these sacred records to the Prophet Joseph Smith, whose translation is called The Book of Mormon. This Testament contains the fullness of the everlasting gospel, as delivered by Jesus Christ to the ancient inhabitants of the Americas.
