Product Description
One Moment
The original Christus statue was made by Sculptor Albert Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770-1844) of plaster in 1823 and was used to create the 11-foot marble version in 1839 that stands in the Church of Our Lady in Copenhagen, Denmark. Thorvaldsen’s statue of the resurrected Christ helps present LDS belief in Jesus Christ, the son of God and redeemer of the world.
The first replica of the Christus, created in 1839, stands in a rotunda in the Salt Lake Visitors Center before a mural of the universe to show that "by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created" (D&C 76:24) These white carrara marble statues of Christ, with his hands outstretched, inviting all to come to him, help present the central doctrine of the Church: that Jesus of Nazareth is the Son of God and the Savior and Redeemer of the world.
This statue will become a cherished family heirloom for years.
